Who can register to vote in Ohio?

To register as a voter in Ohio, you must:

  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Be a resident of Ohio
  • Have lived in your precinct at least 30 days prior to the election
  • Be at least 18 years old by Election Day
  • Not be incarcerated for a felony conviction
  • Not be declared incompetent for voting purposes by a probate court
  • Not been permanently disenfranchised for violating election laws
  • Not claim the right to vote anywhere else

What if I'm only 17?

If you'll be 18 by the General Election, you can still register and vote in Ohio!

Where do I vote on Election Day?

On Election Day, you can cast your ballot at your designated precinct voting location.

To find yours, visit the Ohio Polling Place Finder.

All polling places in Ohio are open from 6:30am to 7:30pm Eastern Time

Can I vote by mail?

Any registered voter in Ohio can request an absentee ballot to vote by mail!

Vote by mail in Ohio by requesting an absentee ballot.

Absentee ballot requests must be received by November 3rd,
and returned no later than November 5th.

I'm in college away from home, which state do I vote in?

You can either register to vote in Ohio or the state you're attending school in — but not both!

I'm not in the US right now, how do I vote?

If you are a military voter or a United States citizen living abroad, you should request an overseas absentee ballot.

What ID do I need to vote?

One of the following forms of ID must be provided when voting in person:

  • Military ID
  • Ohio Drivers License or Photo ID
  • Current utility bill, bank statement, or paycheck
  • Any government document (except notice of voter registration)

These documents must be current and contain your name and address.

What if I have a disability?

Several bills have been passed to ensure voters with disabilities still have reasonable access to privately cast their vote in Ohio.
