Who can register to vote in Illinois?
To register as a voter in Illinois, you must:
- Be a citizen of the United States
- Be a resident of Illinois
- Have lived in your precinct at least 30 days prior to the election
- Be at least 18 years old by Election Day
- Not be incarcerated for a felony conviction
- Not claim the right to vote anywhere else

Where do I vote on Election Day?
On Election Day, you can cast your ballot at your designated precinct voting location.

All polling places in Illinois are open from 6:00am to 7:00pm Central Time
Can I vote by mail?
Any registered voter in Illinois can request an absentee ballot to vote by mail!
Vote by mail in Illinois by requesting an absentee ballot.
Absentee ballot requests must be received by November 1st,
and returned no later than November 6th.
I'm in college away from home, which state do I vote in?
You can either register to vote in Illinois or the state you're attending school in — but not both!
I'm not in the US right now, how do I vote?
If you are a military voter or a United States citizen living abroad, you should request an overseas absentee ballot.
Can I vote before Election Day?
Yes! Skip the lines and vote early in Illinois. If you're going to be busy, out of town, or otherwise occupied on Election day, this is the best time to vote.
Early Voting period is between Thursday, September 27th and Monday, November 5th.

What ID do I need to vote?
Unless you're voting in Illinois for the first time, you likely do not need to provide ID to vote.
If you're voting for the first time, voting by mail, or did not provide ID with your voter registration, you will need to provide one of the following:
- Photo ID
- Utility bill
- Bank statement
- Paycheck or paystub
These documents must be current and contain your name and address.
